DeCounter,DeCounter and Moore Family
Good Hope Gardens was established 25 years ago by Grover and Mary Jo DeCounter. They built their business on 4.3 acres, producing just enough to go to a local market. Since then, the business has expanded just as the family has. Good Hope Gardens now operates on 20 acres, including the newest project of a fruit orchard. The business also has an established shop, and attends multiple farmer's markets. Also, an addition to the business has been the construction of 3 greenhouses. In these greenhouses we not only start our own plants, but are able to get the earliest greens, cucumbers, and tomatoes. As stewards of the land, Good Hope Gardens believes in using fewer chemicals and commercial fertilizers. We practice "sustainability" in our operation by using techniques such as, crop rotation, cover crops, and mechanical weed control.
While April through October is filled with fruit and vegetable production, December through March is filled with beef and lamb production; the "oldest" segment of Good Hope Gardens, but the "newest" product line. The DeCounter Family has a 150 head commercial ewe flock and feeds 6 head of high quality calves each year in which we offer to the public in quarters, halves, and wholes.
Good Hope Gardens is a family owned and operated business. Family is very important to Grover and Mary Jo. They include both their son and daughter along with their families to run a successful business. Even though running a successful business takes many long hours, they still manage to find the time to spoil the grandchildren.
